In addition to the extensive line of standard products presented in our Wheaton Science Packaging PRODUCT CATALOG, we offer on-site engineering and design for custom glassware, for custom glass and plastic containers and for closure assemblies.

Custom Glass Capabilities

Our glass apparatus operation includes a full range of hand tooling, off-hand glass blowing, glass lathe capabilities and vial manufacturing with the capability to manufacture heavy wall vials. Automatic lathes, capable of working with a wide range of glass tubing sizes, produce to precision tolerances with a high degree of reproducibility. Our custom glass operations also include concentric and center less grinding, polishing, cutting, fusing, tempering, beveling, drilling, thread forming, coating, laminating, sandblasting, laser etching, screen printing and decaling as well as some machine shop capabilities.

Plastic Manufacturing Capabilities

Injection Molding — A molding process whereby a heat-softened polymer is injected from a Plastifier into a relatively cool cavity, which gives the article the desired shape.
Application: Primarily used in making closures and components.

(IBM) Injection Blow Molding — A molding process in which heat-softened polymer is injected from a Plastifier into a mold cavity creating a Preform, which is then transferred to a Blow Mold where air is blown into the Preform, forcing it to take the shape of the Blow Mold cavity.
Application: Ideal for bottles up to 4 oz. (120 mL). Larger bottles are possible.

(ISBM) Injection Stretch Blow Molding — A molding process whereby Preforms are introduced into a cavity, stretched axially by a Stretch Rod, and then blow circumferentially to the shape of the Blow Mold cavity.
Applicaton: Ideal for bottles 4 oz. (120 mL) & larger.

(EBM) Extrusion Blow Molding — A molding process whereby heat-softened polymer is forced into the shape of a hollow tube. While still soft, a mold closes around the tube, pinching the top and bottom of the tube closed. A Blow Pin is introduced, and air is forced through the pin forcing the tube to take the shape of the Blow Mold cavity.
Application: Ideal for bottles 4 oz. (120 mL) & larger.

Molded Glass Capabilities

Type I — (Clear & Amber) borosilicate glass
  • Superior chemical resistance
  • pH stable and low extractables
  • Typical Applications:
    • Parenteral & non-parenteral products, acidic, neutral & alkaline products, water for injection, un-buffered products, chemicals, sensitive lab samples, and those requiring sterilization are commonly packaged in Type I glass.
  • Amber glass for UV protection of light sensitive products.

Type III — (Clear & Amber) Soda-lime glass

  • Moderate chemical resistance.
  • Typically acceptable for packaging dry powders that will be dissolved into solutions or buffers that are insensitive to alkali.
  • Amber glass for UV protection of light sensitive products.

Tubular Glass Capabilities
